The Circus!

The Kora Shrine Circus was in town so Alan took the day off so we could bring Caroline. We usually try to do something special for her birthday, just the three of us, and we thought this would be perfect! Caroline had such a great time. The funny thing was her favorite parts were the 'flippy floppy' seats, the pirates walking around which she refused to say, "Hi" to, and the cotton candy. When we left the circus we had plans to go and grab a bite to eat but Caroline was fading. We hadn't mentioned this to her, but all of a sudden from the back seat we here, "Can we go to a restaurant?" We laughed and turned around and she was out. Her last little battle cry!

That night, over the monitor we heard, "Ladies and gentleman! Boys and Girls! and babies! the show is ABOUT TO START!" I think it's safe to say she enjoyed herself!

On a somber note, we were very thankful that our plans had our entire family in Portland seeing the circus rather than Alan working in Boston. Sadly, as all know by now, the Boston Marathon finish line was attacked. Fortunately, all we know who were down there are safe. It is definitely eery since those were my old stomping grounds and we would watch or volunteer at the marathon. We went to bed with heavy hearts for those that were injured or killed but thankful that our family went to see the circus and were safe and sound.
