Marginal Way

I've been wanting to go to Marginal Way for a long time now. It's sad when guests of your wedding go to all of these fun places and you live somewhere and haven't been to any! The good thing about having a kid is you get out and do more. Alan and I have talked about going a few times this Summer, but weren't keen on dealing with the tourists and parking. Last night, after dinner we decided to try for it. We lucked out. Between it being a Monday night and right after a storm the parking lots were closed so they were pretty empty and free! There were people walking the trail, but it wasn't busy either. The evening was warm, but there was a nice breeze which made it perfect.
Caroline did well riding in the stroller, as long as every once in a while Daddy went fast. On the way back she had to stretch her legs and didn't want to stop. Once this kid gets going, it's pretty difficult to pick her back up again!

A wonderful weekend!

Saturday, we prepared for the storm quickly by tidying up the yard and making sure we had a generator. Alan headed to the marina to help his dad with taking the boat out and then we headed to Kennebunkport to check out a craft fair going on. We also did some more window shopping. We came home and decided what we wanted to do for the night. Our original plans were to go to Peaks Island and have dinner. Neither of us had been out there and we thought it would be nice. Now, with gray skies it didn't sound so appealing. We decided to go for it anyways. We had reservations for out there and an Italian place in Portland, just in case!

We dropped Caroline for her first overnight stay with Nana and Grampy and we headed out. We missed the ferry and decided to just hang out in Portland. We went to a great little jazz bar for cocktails and then had some of the best Italian meals I've ever had. I wanted more pasta for dessert! Instead, we had dessert there and then had gelato down the street :)

Irene made her appearance this morning and luckily, she tracked more westward than originally planned. So, we haven't gotten much rain and the wind isn't too bad. We have lost power. It's a nice, lazy day here that is really overdue.

Anniversary Night

We had plans to celebrate our anniversary on Saturday, when we wouldn't feel as rushed to go somewhere. With Hurricane Irene looming and Friday looking like the only sunny day, we decided to enjoy the evening as a family and celebrate our day. We took a nice walk around Dock Square and then headed to Big Daddy's ice cream. We love it there and it is across the street from The Coastal House, so we were nearby our reception site :P
I was going to put this all into a weekend post, but there were too many pictures and all of them make a great storyboard :)

Happy 4th Anniversary!

Four years ago I married my best friend and it was the best, and happiest, day of my life. The birth of Caroline was amazing, don't get me wrong, but it all started with August 26, 2007! Plus, family and friends were present, I got to wear a gorgeous gown, eat great food, and dance with my man. Whenever we go to church, drive by it, or see a wedding somewhere else I'm immediately sent back to that wonderful day.
So, I wanted to say, "Thank you" to my wonderful husband. Thank you for all that you've done and all that we've experienced.
I have these pictures memorized, but looking at them today brings back a flood of memories. It all started with a ball game and look where we are now :)

Fresh Air

Today I decided Caroline and I should head out after lunch. No errands, no appointments, just fun! We went to Rachel Carson in Wells since it was noon and I didn't want to deal with mass amounts of sunscreen. We had such a nice little walk and I really enjoyed my time with the kiddo.

This evening, after dinner, Alan and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and go for a walk. We had a nice walk up Ocean Ave in the 'Port. Gorgeous evening, beautiful view, and family...what more can you ask for? I think someone will sleep well tonight, will it be me or Caroline? :)

Relaxed Weekend

This weekend we had no plans and we were happy for that. It's been such a fun Summer and we've had lots to do, but it was nice to not be on a schedule this weekend. Saturday, we did a few errands and then headed to the marina for a boat ride and some dinner. Unfortunately, the sea was rough so we stuck around the marina. We enjoyed it, nonetheless!

Today, we did some more things around the house and ran a few errands. We had a small leak from the dishwasher that required my in house plumbing team. Caroline was very curious and wanted to help. Alan is pretty happy with the fact that he'll have a flashlight holder pretty soon!

She got a little distracted by the fan and abandoned Daddy. She loves the breeze in her hair!

It's been pretty busy around here and I haven't had a chance to update the blog like I wanted to. This week was supposed to be our "Catch up" week. Some nice down time to unwind, except Caroline is teething and on top of that has caught some viral bug. A toddler with gastroenteritis is NOT relaxing! Let's just say if I wouldn't mind taking a break from laundry for a while :)

Two weeks ago we had a big family get together at camp. Caroline got to play with her friend Eliza and her cousin Maia. They are months apart and it's always fun to watch them play. Such little girls :)

This past weekend we ate at the Marina for dinner Friday and Saturday night. It was a nice way to unwind and Caroline enjoyed roaming around on the grass while we ate. She also loved stealing a piece of corn and taking it back to her blanket!




On Sunday, we celebrated the first anniversary of Caroline's Baptism. We invited Great Gram, Grampy and Nana, Aunt Barbara and Uncle Richard (Godparent's) to church and for a gathering back at the house. We were saddened to hear that the Very Reverend M.L. Agnew wasn't giving the sermon. His daughter had been ill and he had to go back to Texas. We were hoping he'd share that special day with us, plus he can always get a smile out of Caroline! Peanut did really well during the service, this time she didn't cry at all! She has so much fun looking all around. Of course, we totally were caught up enjoying the morning and forgot to take pictures of Caroline in her cute little dress!

When we came back we had a light lunch and cake. Phew, I hate to say this but I think I'm good with cake for a while. We also watched Aunt Barbara and Uncle Richard's pictures from their recent trip to London. They brought Caroline a little London Guard bear and he has fit nicely into her circle of friends! When everyone left I told Caroline who gave her the bear and she repeated, "Barbara." Clear as day! She's been saying all sorts of words the past week and it's just so much fun! She also can pretty much pull up her own pants now! Such a big girl!

Birthday Breakfast

This morning we hit The Cafe at Merriland Farm for my "birthday" breakfast. Can I just say how much I love this place? My cousin told me about this place when she was visiting for my wedding and my mom and I went there a few days later. It's so peaceful and no one really knows its there! The perfect place to enjoy stuffed french toast with blueberries under the trees!

Happy Birthday Mommy!

Another year has passed and I'm now 33. The funny thing is I don't ever remember how old I am. I always have to think of how old Alan is and then count back. Birthdays are always fun since it usually means good food and cake, mmm cake! I had wanted to make my cake this year, but have been too busy this past week so Alan and Caroline surprised me with one from our local bakery. The cake was very tall and is going to be a tough challenge to have it finished by Sunday, when I make another cake for a get together! It's a white and chocolate marbled cake with some Kahlua in the middle layer. Yum!
Caroline and I spent the rainy day in the kitchen, making sweet potato chips, croutons, and organizing. Once Alan came home, we met Willis and Diane at the Steakhouse. As is always the case on my birthday, there was a wait. Unlike last year though, Caroline was a trooper and we had a wonderful dinner! Kiddo loves the rolls at The Steakhouse :)
