Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! We started the weekend off by running some errands on Friday night while Caroline hung out with Nana and Grampy. The biggest item we needed to get was an air conditioner for Caroline's room. We were in the 50's last week, but Summer is here with temps in the low 80's this week! Saturday we did things around the house and Sunday we finally got a little more in the Holiday Weekend spirit.

Sunday, Grampy and Daddy's finished up the back deck and we set up Caroline's water table. She loved getting soaked. Think this will be a big hit this Summer! Then, we had a cookout and Caroline got to enjoy her first bite of watermelon. She wasn't too impressed since it wasn't a Dorito like everyone else was having!

Monday morning we woke up and went to the parade in town. Caroline wasn't too impressed waiting for the parade to begin. It was nap time, after all. When the parade started and she realized she could wave and clap to her heart's content, she decided she loved parades. Add in a marching band or two and she was a happy camper!

We came home for a quick nap, that lasted two hours, and then headed up to the Welch's camp. It was so much nicer up there. We had no breeze at home, but there was a nice breeze at camp. no swimming this time, but we had great fun playing with the dogs, waving and greeting everyone, getting our toes dirty for the first time, and enjoying some more food off the BBQ.

Overall, it was a great way to kick off Summer! Alan and I are looking forward to many more fun weekends with our kiddo. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Having fun with her water table.Absolutely soaked!

She LOVED being up on Daddy's shoulders. Higher than anyone else :)

Quick snooze before we head to camp

Caroline loved petting the 'big' puppies and getting lots of kisses!

Fresh air does a baby good. :)

Grampy's Birthday

Thursday, the 26th, was Grampy's birthday. We all went out to The Steakhouse, in Wells, and enjoyed some good food. Caroline, as always, enjoys going out to eat. Not only does she enjoy sampling everyone's meals, but she really loves saying, "Hi" to everyone.

After dinner, we came back to our house and had birthday cake. We played around for a bit, wearing our new sun hat, etc. Unfortunately, we didn't get that many great pictures of her in her Navy Dress so we'll have to dress her up again!

Sleeping Beauty (This is rare that we get to see her sleeping!)

We also had fun that morning playing on the deck. We looked at all the containers that will soon hold our plants, had fun NOT wearing our new sunhat, and listening to the birdies. Caroline was also big on mimicking sounds and started saying "quack quack" as she grabbed for her ducks.

A Sunny Day!

Today was a beautiful day here in Maine. The first, really, this Spring. Good thing since we're headed into Summer! I woke up and walked out of the room and Alan left the slider open. I felt a warm breeze, heard the birds, and had to squint from the light coming through the skylights! Glorious!

Fievel enjoyed the outdoors for the 1st time in 2 years!

Caroline and I headed to a playgroup first thing. She had lots of fun and was pretty tired afterwards! She wrapped herself in her blanket the entire way home.

After her nap we were going to hit the park, but someone didn't take a good nap. So, we figured we'd try again and Daddy could come with us when he got home from work. That didn't pan out because someone still didn't want to sleep.

She finally went to sleep and I baked Grampy's birthday cake. She woke up a very unhappy camper. Thinking teeth. After her spirits were lifted we decided a drive was still in order.
So, we hit Dairy Queen! Caroline had no problems picking up where she left off last Summer. She loves ice cream!

We did a little impromptu photo op with the cake since she didn't get a chance to truly help. She was my cake tester as I leveled the halves.

Caroline's New Table

Yesterday, Nana, Caroline, and I went shopping and did lunch. Caroline got a few goodies and necessities. After her nap, she came downstairs and went right to the big box and started squealing. This is the location that all new boxes go to in the house and she loves to play with them!

She enjoyed helping Daddy put it together more then actually using the table. She doesn't realize all of the fun things she is going to get to do at this table! There are quite a few videos since I had to cut them up to fit here on Blogger. Easy view for those far away to watch Caroline in action!

After this, she ate spaghetti with red sauce for the first time and loved it and then helped tidy around the house. She loves to follow Daddy around when he vacuums!

Freedom and baby goats

Caroline experienced a little freedom this weekend. She was feeling a little better and a few rays of sunshine peeked through. She also experienced a little freedom outside. Alan was grilling and she was finally allowed to "sneak" out on to the deck! She was just giddy to be outside with Daddy and the pups!

Saturday, it had warmed up to 67 degrees, s0 we went down the street to a nearby school. They were having their annual plant sale and they had baby goats! She was interested in them, but more interested in the people. We made a trip to Lowe's and Home Depot to check out some planting ideas and came home. The clouds reappeared and it got cold so Caroline was back to indoor activities.

All of these pictures were taken with my new camera, Cannon PowerShot Elph. Alan surprised me with it after too many complaints of missing photo ops! Lugging the D90 everywhere was too much of a pain.

The "Blah" days

It's been quiet around here this past week. Caroline was starting to get better late last week and we had a wedding to go to Friday evening. She looked adorable and somehow no pictures were taken? She was so good! She just wanted to walk all around and say "Hi" to everyone. Finally, there was some eye rubbing and some nestling into Daddy's shoulder so we left before the cake was cut.

Saturday morning Caroline and I both woke up sick. She had regressed and I finally got what she had. We also noticed a tooth or two coming in! Here it is Friday and we're both still sick! Luckily, it's been raining for the past week and in the 50's. No need to go out! Sadly, we had to cancel some really fun playgroups, but there will be plenty more.

So, not a whole lot going on except lots of sniffling, cuddling, and some tears. Hopefully, we'll both be on the mend this weekend so we can have some fun next week!

A few videos of Caroline hanging around the house. Caroline has been doing some fun stuff. She'll pat your back if you pat hers. She can full on run now, which makes it even more difficult to catch her when she sneaks the remote away! We're down to an evening bottle (she's sick so I'm not going to push it!) and she her silly personality has really bloomed this week.

Watching Daddy and Grampy finish up the deck.

First Fever

While I'd be OK never writing this post, I knew it was inevitable. Caroline has actually done really well the past 13 months, only getting the sniffles once and that lasted half a day.
Last night Caroline woke up from her nap and was not a happy camper. In hindsight, she went down for every nap a little too easy. She was warm and very irritable. The real kicker for us was when she laid on Alan's lap for forty minutes. Forty minutes! This kid doesn't stop, rarely cuddles, and she just laid there. We gave her some Tylenol and off to bed she went.
I barely slept, listening to every sound she made during the night. She woke up earlier then usual and Alan beat me upstairs since he was just as curious to see how she was. She was HOT. Very hot! Gave her a bottle, didn't bother with the sippy cup since she was miserable, and some Tylenol. A little while later I got around to taking her temperature and it was 101.4. She had cooled down so it had been higher than that. Decided a call to her doctor was in order to see what he wanted to do.
We decided to bring her in since she had a couple of swollen lymph nodes in her neck and her ears looked a little gross. The verdict is a virus. Her eardrums are dull, but there is no fluid nor redness. Her throat and nose look good. So, hopefully she'll ride this out and we'll be good to go. We're on the lookout and in the meantime all play dates have been canceled! Besides having a wedding to go to Friday, I want my baby better! Love the cuddles, but not at the expense of her well being.
There is some good news to report. She weighed in at 20 pounds even. That's up 11 oz. from her 12 month appointment a month ago. We were concerned since she hasn't been drinking as much milk now that she is switching to a cup. No need to worry, that's her biggest weight gain so far! Who knows, maybe kiddo will creep up to 25% or higher for her 15 month appointment.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!

Sunday morning I got to sleep in, sans baby monitor. I still woke up listening to Alan feed the animals and go get Caroline. It was nice to lay in bed and listen and not do! Alan and Caroline came into the bedroom and brought a card, some candy, and their happy faces. I also found some pink tulips in the kitchen and a birch tree out back!

We kind of puttered around the house. Alan doing some work on the deck, and Caroline and I doing some odds and ends around the house. Later that afternoon, we went over to Alan's Aunt and Uncles house for a family BBQ.

It was a nice, laid back end to a fun weekend. Mother's Day is such a great holiday. It's like a second birthday, except it celebrates something wonderful. It celebrates all the great moms out there and personally, it celebrates that I get to be a mommy to my sweet little girl and my little family.

While we were at the BBQ I saw a picture of when Caroline's Great Grandmother and Aunt/Godmother came by a week after she was born. These pictures were thought to be lost. Finding these pictures is the icing on the cake!

Here's a picture of Caroline, Alan, Tucker, and myself seven days after Caroline was born. It's one of the only pictures of us from early on. It's also the day that my Bells Palsy came on so it brings back all sorts of memories that occurred that evening!

Pre-Mother's Day

It was a nice day out today and there were some festivities going on in town so we decided we would treat today as Mother's Day. Plus, tomorrow too :)

We went in to Kennebunk and strolled around the May Day festivities for a while. Then we took a ride up to Cape Elizabeth and headed to the Lobster Shack at Two Lights. I thoroughly enjoyed my lobster roll, Alan enjoyed his chicken, and Caroline enjoyed a snack of Annie's cheddar bunnies, a pickle, and a piece of french fry :)

We finished up the day by heading to the store and picking up a second Adirondack chair for Caroline. I'll post more about "The Chair" later! She surprised us at the store when she went right to a little rocking chair and started rocking on it. She did really well!

New Shoes!

Thursday we took Caroline to Stride Rite and got her some shoes. This was the first time she has ever been sized and worn shoes for more then looking pretty. These were her walking shoes. She did great at the store and didn't mind wearing the shoes. She was a little wobbly getting used to having something on her feet, but she didn't mind keeping them on in the car or during lunch. That's a big deal since no pair of socks is safe on her feet!

It's so weird to see her walking around with shoes on. My baby is growing up *sigh*

While we were there we noticed an adorable tiara headband. Caroline wore it to lunch that day and out to dinner the next night :) No, it's not her birthday people. She's a princess everyday!
